How much power does the
inverter need to have?
The size of the inverter depends on the application it is being used
for. For example, it takes a more powerful inverter to run a coffee-
maker than it does to operate a latop. The most power-intensive
gadget determines the power rating of the inverter. You should also
consider the starting current of the devices. Compressor refrigerators,
for instance, can consume up to ten times more than their nominal
power consumption.
WAECO SinePower or PerfectPower which series is the right one for you?
A PerfectPower inverter with sinusoidal output voltage is absolutely
fine for many applications. For more power-intensive appliances, you
should opt for a PerfectPower high-performance inverter.
Sensitive high-tech devices place higher demands on the quality of
the supply voltage. They require a pure sine wave voltage. In these
cases it is absolutely essential to use a SinePower sine wave
inverter.
Here again, the most demanding electrical appliance determines the
choice of the inverter. A single device on board requiring a pure sine
wave voltage is reason enough for you to opt for a sine wave
inverter.

Our recommendation:
A sine wave inverter with a capacity of at least
1200 watts
Alternatively:
An inverter of at least 1200 watts for the toaster
plus a 150-watt sine wave inverter for the
toothbrush
What size battery do I need?
If you expect high performance from your inverter, you will need
a high-capacity battery. We recommend a minimum capacity of
15 amp-hours per 100 watts inverter output. This ensures that the
large currents can flow without voltage drop, thereby preventing
excessive strain on the battery.
It’s not only the short-time peak requirements e.g. that of a micro-
wave oven that count. When calculating the battery capacity don’t
forget to take all the small electric consumers into account that are
switched on for longer periods of time.
Multiply the amperage of every single appliance with the number of
hours it is usually switched on. This will give you the approximate
battery capacity in amp-hours (Ah). To calculate the total amount
drawn from the battery, simply add up the amounts for all electrical
appliances and add a generous buffer.
Example:
Microwave oven
(1500 W) 150 A x 0.1 h = 15.0 Ah
Lamp 15 A x 2.5 h = 37.5 Ah
TV set 3 A x 2.0 h = 6.0 Ah

Total capacity drawn 58.5 Ah
Our recommendation:
A battery with a capacity of 200 Ah, 30% of which
would be utilised on a daily basis in our example.
